Good Faith Estimate

Every patient has the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" that breaks down the cost of your non-emergency medical care.

Healthcare providers are legally bound to provide uninsured patients (or those who decline to use their health insurance) an estimate of the bill for medical procedures, services and related expenses.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency procedure or services. This may include the cost of related items such as medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Your healthcare provider should provide a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or procedure. You may also request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling a procedure or service.
  • If you receive a bill that exceeds your Good Faith Estimate by $400 or more, you have a right to dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
